Frequently Asked
FAQ - and more

Nature can be very cruel. How can Deists justify using nature as a guide to God?
Nature is neither cruel nor kind. Nature is the way things are, and God is the way God is. It is through studying nature that Deists hope to understand how God is, not how we want God to be. Deists also study how nature works to better understand their own human nature.

Who invented/started/created Deism?
No one person is really credited with having started Deism. Although Lord Herbert of Cherbury is often given credit for being the first to use the term "Deism", its concepts can be traced back to the ancient Greeks. It can also be argued that since Deism is a natural religion, its concepts may be prehistoric.

Isn't Deism just a cult?
Cults need a leader who uses his or her charisma to influence their followers to bend to their will. Deism requires individuals to think for themselves. Therefore, Deism is essentially cult-proof.
